Why isn’t Easter as big of a holiday as Christmas? It really should be but it often sneaks up on me. I suppose it’s because there aren’t as many things (family gatherings, gifts, etc.) tied to Easter as there are to Christmas. But the event celebrated at Easter is huge!! Jesus came to Earth and died in agony on the cross to pay for the sins of all mankind. By that act of love I have been forgiven of my sins and have the wonderful opportunity to be adopted by God and live with Him for all of eternity in heaven. But Jesus didn’t just stop there. He rose from the dead and ascended back into heaven proving that He was no mere man, but God who had power over death. I can’t even begin to wrap my mind around that thought. Who am I that God would care enough about me to send His son to die in my place?
I don’t want this Easter to go by as just another Sunday on the calendar. I want to look forward to this special day that has been set aside to remember what God has done. Over the next few days leading up to Easter I plan to read and reflect on the following passages of scripture.
- Jesus Prays on Mount of Olives (Luke 22:39-46)
- Jesus before Pilate (John 18:28-32)
- Jesus to be Crucified (John 19:1-16)
- Crucifixion (John 19:17-37)
- Jesus is Buried (John 19:38-42)
- Resurrection (Matthew 28:1-10)
I hope that you will do the same.
