I did a little brainstorming session to come up with a list of fun new activities for my ten month old and decided to share them with you over the next month in a series called 20 Days of Playing With Baby. None of these ideas are Earth shattering, supper cool, never been done before activities but maybe you haven’t tried them before or maybe they will help spark a fun new activity of your own.
——————————————————————————————–
For this activity I used:
- Empty water bottles
- Aluminum foil
- Oil
- Water
- Food coloring
- Rice
- Dish soap
- Pom poms
- Super glue
To create the discovery bottles I filled empty water bottles with various interesting things. Below you will find a description of the each bottles pictured above.
1. I tore off pieces of aluminum foil and put them in the bottle. Some pieces were small and some pieces were bigger and crumpled up.
2. I filled the bottle about half way with water and added a drop of blue food coloring. Then I added some vegetable oil so when the bottle is shaken the water and oil mix, turning green, then separate again.
3. I poured some uncooked rice into the bottle for some fun sounds.
4. I filled the bottle about a third of the way with water and added a drop of red food coloring. I then added a small drop of dish soap. When the bottle is shaken bubbles form and will last for a long time.
5. I filled the bottle with pom poms of various sizes and colors for visual interest.
After filling the bottles I put some super glue around the rim and screwed on the lids. You may want to cover the lids with duct tape but at this point I’m not too worried about Henry taking the lids off.
Henry had lots of fun looking at, shaking, rolling and chasing these bottles.
Here he is intently studying the pom poms.
I think the bottles with the liquids were his favorite but he did get a little frustrated when he couldn’t drink them.
There are lots of different things you could put in these bottles. What would you fill yours with?
