I did a little brainstorming session to come up with a list of fun new activities for my ten month old and decided to share them with you over the next month in a series called 20 Days of Playing With Baby. None of these ideas are Earth shattering, supper cool, never been done before activities but maybe you haven’t tried them before or maybe they will help spark a fun new activity of your own.

I figured Henry would think finger painting would be lots of fun but since he puts everything in his mouth I knew I shouldn’t bring out the real paint. I was thinking along the lines of food as paint when it hit me. Why not incorporate some fun smells!
For this activity I used:
- Yogurt
- Assortment of fruity flavored powdered drink mixes (Kool-Aid)
- Drop cloth
To whip up these baby friendly finger paints I added powdered drink mixes to yogurt. In the picture below you’ll see a green package……that was actually red powder. Hopefully you won’t be in as much of a hurry as I was when I picked out the drink mixes. 🙂 You could just get the primary colors and mixes the secondary colors but I wanted to have lots of different smells. Oh, and let me tell you, these smell amazing!
And he was so excited he just had to tell me all about it.
Then he dripped the paint on his leg and the floor.
Of course he had to taste the finger paint. I personally thought it was very sour but that didn’t seem to stop Henry.
When we were done painting he went straight into the bathtub.

This activity is great for developing your child’s: fine motor skills, sense of touch, sense of smell, sense of taste and curiosity.
I love everything in the series, but this is my favorite yet – GREAT idea!!!
Thank you! I hope you have fun playing with your little one. 🙂
